Past Perfect

How is the past perfect tense formed? The past perfect tense is formed by using "had" with the past participle of a verb. had + participle had eaten had taken had driven When is the past participle used? The past perfect is usually used when two events have taken place in the past. The past perfect is used to describe the earlier event while the past simple is used to describe the later event. Example: He had won three prizes for his research by the time he was twenty-five years old. She had already finished her homework before her mother got home. Had he cleaned the whole house when his wife returned from the gym?
